A Conversation With Our Director of Business Development, Seung Choi

Team

What is your role at CASTUS?
I am the Director of Business Development and responsible for generating new revenue by identifying high-potential accounts, opportunities, and partnerships, as well as formalizing and optimizing a strategy to accomplish the above.

What is your education background?
I went to preschool in Seoul, South Korea where I graduated summa cum laude in throwing tantrums and skipping swim class. In all seriousness, I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014 with a BS in Neuroscience.

What is your professional background?
While I spent almost the entirety of my college years as pre-med, I realized the medical path wasn’t for me and found my calling in helping businesses grow after spending much of my adolescence and young adulthood working at my father’s store in Philly. Over the past 8 years having started in an entry-level sales role, having been a managing partner, and now in a leadership position over the course of three companies, I’ve found business development to be such a rewarding challenge that requires me to think outside the box and remain solutions-oriented for every brand I work with.

What is the most rewarding success story of your career?
During my 5-year tenure with my last company, I was able to grow revenue by more than 40% year over year and more than quadruple our client base. Being able to contribute to our team growth from three people working out of a living room to 20 full-time employees with two office locations was a tremendous journey and a collective highlight in my career accomplishments.

What are you most looking forward to about your role at CASTUS?
Learning everything that will set myself, our team, and our partners up for success. Being able to absorb as much information about our clients and their respective goals, audiences, and industries so we can in turn provide the most valuable insights and solutions. Sales and BD are comprised of 70% listening and 30% talking!

What are three fun facts about yourself?
1) I’ve driven across the country a total of four times, once with my cat and another with my dog. Surprisingly, the cat was the better traveler!
2) My appetite has been described as insatiable. I’m accepting inquiries from all talent agencies that are looking to represent the next host for Man v. Food.
3) My partner and I are expecting our first child this summer! We are so very excited to meet the little one and open to tips on getting a good night’s sleep over the first few months of parenthood. 😊
